Recently, me and Alex put on an informal photo shoot for a formal picture. He was looking for a "professional" photo. We took them in my dining room, using a grey wall and natural light from a window to his right.
The unique thing about taking these kinds of photos is that when many people hear about the lack of studio equipment used to make them, they assume that you spent hours Photoshopping the background and tweaking the lighting. I think a lot of people underestimate the power of natural lighting and position. I had him stand far enough away from the wall to make it blurry, and close enough to the window (which was the only source of light for the room) to make sure there was contrast in the shadows on his face.
Overall, the photos aren't perfect and smooth; they're natural and clear and those are the photos I, personally, love to look at.
